1. The passive voice. Rewrite in the passive voice. Sometimes more than one passive sentence is possible. Use "by" only where necessary.

1.1. Tom can't fix his watch himself. So he goes to a watchmaker.



1.2. Our car is damaged. We can't repair it ourselves.



1.3. Mrs Poodle is old and so she can't carry the heavy bags.



1.4. Rupert Miller is too old to paint the fence. His neighbours do it for him.



1.5. Mrs Swan's shrubs are so high. A gardener must cut those shrubs.



1.6. Mr Winterbottom doesn't know if that report is correct. Someone must look at it.



1.7. George can't write those letters in French. So his secretary must help him.

 

1.8. Sheila can't translate that Spanish text. Her brother must help her.



1.9. Pat is ill. He can't tidy up his room. His friend Nadine does it for him.



1.10. Christian's hair is too long. So the hairdresser must cut it.



1.11. The carpets in Kim's flat are so filthy. But Kim can't clean them herself.



1.12. She has torn her new coat. But she can't mend it herself. So she must take it to a tailor.

3. Mixed tenses.

3.1. If John _____ too much time at the airport, he _____ here by now.

3.2. Michael _____ with us for three weeks.
